Akkeshi Town ② !

by Kazu

Can you find the island that has a small shrine and the gate  on it in the old photo above ?
Because of the land-sinking, the island shrank to the extent shown on the right. Needless to say, the high-end Japanese restaurant on the island disappeared.
The island is called Kaki-jima that means "Oyster Island" in Japanese. It is also called "Benten-jima". Benten or Benzaiten means
Japanese Buddhist goddess, who originated from the Hindu goddess Saraswati.

Much more beautiful photos of Akkeshi Town can be seen at

I will post the photo of the red bridge called Akkeshi Oh-hashi tomorrow.

Akkeshi Bay was covered with evening calm. There was no breakwater nor bulwarks along the coastline. It was very calm.

To be continued.
